Works. The South Works would be closed not long

Notes: This almost never seen,
and difficult to photograph Baldwin, once worked
at the USS Waukegan wire mill. It was transferred
to USS South Works after the mill at Waukegan
closed in 1980. The unit was built in August 1949
for American Steel & Wire. Its final disposition,
after the South Works shut down in 1988, is unknown.
It is presumed to have been scrapped. |

Notes: This relatively unknown,
and possibly never photographed, GE 65-ton diesel
worked at USS South Works in Chicago. It was their
entry in the bicentennial locomotive craze of
the 70's. South Works closed in 1988, and the
final disposition of this unit is unknown. |
