Official Company Archive Photos: Steam Locomotives Page 1
These are shots from the railroad's collection that fit into the 'steam locomotives' category. Looking at these makes you realize how long the EJ&E has been around, and also how they were probably one of the biggest 'shortlines' around. The Chicago, Lake Shore & Eastern was merged with the EJ&E in the late 1800's, so that is why you'll also see photos of those locos. Unfortunately, many of these photos had little to no info with them. More info can also be found on the Steam Roster page. If anyone has something to add, please email me. These photos are not to be used in any way, without the consent of the site owner.

Subject: CLS&E 2-4-0 Locomotive #?
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes: This shows some employees standing around a Chicago, Lake Shore & Eastern loco, which appears to be next to a water tower. No number looks to be visible in the shot.

Subject: CLS&E Pittsburgh 0-6-0 #37
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes: Judging by the cleanliness, this looks to be a build photo. This loco eventually became EJ&E #26. Build year was 1899.

Subject: CLS&E Locomotive #41?
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes: This shows numerous employees posing with a loco numbered 41, but it doesn't seem to correspond to known EJ&E or CLS&E locos. Though it does look like it says CLS&E on the tender, but it's hard to tell.

Subject: CLS&E Alco-Pittsburgh 0-6-0 #53
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes:This looks to be a builder photo. The build year should be 1904. This unit eventually became EJ&E #49, and was reportedly sold to the American Bridge Co. around the year 1938.

Subject: CLS&E Schenectady 0-4-0 #65
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes: This one is an oldie. It is reported to have originally been Illinois Steel Co. #12, then CLS&E #65, then eventually EJ&E #158. Build year was 1890. There appears to be some mill buildings in the background.

Subject: CLS&E Schenectady 0-4-0 #66?
Location: N/A
Date: N/A
Credit: N/A

Notes: The crew poses with what looks to be #66. You can just barely make out the number on the top front. If it is indeed #66, that would make it another Schenectady loco, though it doesn't look exactly like the other loco above. #66 was originally Illinois Steel Co. #4, then CLS&E #66, then EJ&E #159.

Subject: CLS&E Baldwin 0-8-0 #101

He basically tells him that the photo was given to them by a retired Eng. named H.M. Swallow, and they just thought he would like to have it.
